Improving Video Quality

The best setting to receive the best quality video is 30 FPS. You can change your FPS settings by going to the "Settings" menu and clicking on "Advanced" under "Video."

I always experience poor video quality, any suggestions?
If you experience poor video quality, try the following:
  • Close all programs but Viable Vision.
  • Adjust your bandwidth setting in the Network tab of Viable Vision's settings menu.
  • Adjust your frame rate setting by clicking on "Video", and then "Advanced" in Viable Vision's settings menu.

I cannot see any input from my webcam. What can I do?
Be sure that your current webcam is the correct source: open the "Settings" menu in Viable Vision, select "Video", and check in the drop down box that the correct webcam is selected.

Can I connect my webcam through a USB hub?
You should always connect the webcam directly to the USB port of your computer. Connecting the webcam through USB hubs is not recommended and is one of the primary sources of webcam problems.

How do I perform a webcam driver update?
To perform a webcam driver update, first determine what type of webcam you have. To do this:
  • Open Windows Explorer (press "Window" key and "e" key)
  • Open "Control Panel"
  • Open "Scanner and Cameras"
  • In the device list under "Scanner and Cameras" you can find your webcam.
To find the latest drivers go to the webcam manufacturer's web site. They should have a support section or a driver section where user can find the drivers for the device listed in "Scanner and Cameras". Follow the instructions on the manufacturer's web site to download and install the latest webcam drivers.

My video picture is out of focus
Not all users are aware that most webcam use a fixed focus lens that can (and should) be tuned to the right speaker distance. This is usually accomplished by rotating the grid around the lens until the clearest focus is reached. Refer to your webcam user manual for further information.

Viable Vision Technical Questions

What are the minimum computer requirements for Viable Vision?
  • Hard Disk Space: 10 MB.
  • Operating System: Windows 2000/Windows XP/Vista.
  • Software: DirectX 9.0 or up.
  • Broadband connection.
  • Webcam.

Will there be any problems if I am behind a firewall?
Viable Vision uses automatic firewall traversal which should work 90% of the time, with the exception of hardened security environments. You should not experience any difficulties in making outgoing calls if you are behind a firewall, but may experience some difficulties in receiving calls because the firewall will stop the call before Viable Vision has a chance to route the call through the firewall. Contact the internet service provider or the person who helped you set up your router if you are experiencing difficulties in receiving incoming calls.

Why is there neither audio nor video when I answer a call?
The cause could be the limited media capabilities of the remote party that are not compatible with those of Viable Vision. This could happen on very low bandwidth calls (less than 64 Kbps) and when the other party does not support audio.

I run Viable Vision with no webcam connected to my PC, Viable Vision crashes.
This problem is due to a known problem with some Creative webcams, whose drivers claim the webcam to be available even if not connected to the PC. This causes problems with all programs trying to access the webcam (not only Viable Vision). If you ever installed a Creative webcam, we do not recommend running Viable Vision without a webcam connected to your PC.

Can I use other video related applications while I am running Viable Vision?
No, any program (such as MSN Messenger Video Conversation, Yahoo! Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger) that uses video capture devices will be able to run at one at a time. Only one application at a time can access the webcam, so please close all other video-related applications.

"Program Manager" will always appear, and will show your entire computer desktop to the user. By clicking on one of the open programs you are running, that program will replace your outgoing video feed, which will stop when you are using this . To show your personal video again, you must close the Show! .

What is the DVR menu for?
DVR stands for Digital Video Recording. Clicking on DVR will pop down a window that shows a list of your previously recorded calls. By scrolling and clicking on the saved call, you'll be able to view your conversation over and over. You cannot view your saved conversations while you are connected and on a call.

How can I record my call?
While you are on a call, the pop out window that displays your personal video has two buttons. By clicking on the "Record" button (which is shown by a red dot), you will begin to record the call.
