About VRS

Who funds ViableVRS?
ViableVRS, like all other VRS companies, receives its funding from the National Exchange Carriers Association (NECA). These funds are made possible by the Americans with Disabilities Act, and allow Telecommunication Relay Services to be administered free of charge to those who require it. Viable is reimbursed for every minute of VRS we provide, and in return, we are responsible for all personnel and equipment costs.

Are my calls confidential?
All interpreters are expected to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality when interpreting every VRS call. All interpreters strictly adhere to the FCC's consumer rights to privacy regulations and have signed a confidentiality agreement. Any breach in confidentiality is grounds for immediate dismissal.

What is the difference between VRS and VRI?
Video Remote Interpreting takes place when a deaf person is in the same room as a hearing person (i.e. A patient at a doctor's office) and a video screen is set up to connect to an interpreter who interprets the conversation from a remote location. Video Relay Service takes place when a deaf person and hearing person are connected via telephone and are not face to face. We currently offer VRS, and will be providing a "pay as you go" VRI service in the near future. We will keep you informed of any new developments.

Can I call 911 using ViableVRS?
Yes, and your call will automatically move to front of the line for the next video interpreter. You have the following dialing options:

    •  Viable Vision: 911.viablevrs.tv
    •  VPAD: 911.viablevrs.tv
    •  D-Link, VP-100, Ojo: 911.viablevrs.tv
    •  VP-200: ecall.viablevrs.tv

Although you can expect a prompt response and the highest standard of performance, we advise you to use a TTY to contact 911. Using the TTY enables automatic address identification and remains the quickest way to reach 911 emergency responders.

How much do I have to pay to use ViableVRS?
ViableVRS is a completely free service for all deaf and hard of hearing users. You can make any call within the United States or internationally free of charge. There is no limit to how much you can use ViableVRS. There is no obligation to register to use ViableVRS.

My network has a firewall. Can I still connect to ViableVRS?
You should not experience any difficulties if you are using Viable Vision or the VPAD. If you are using another software or videophone hardware, you may experience some difficulties. In order to successfully route your VRS call out of your network, you will need to configure your settings so that your IP ports are not automatically blocked. If you have any questions on how to configure your settings, send an email to help@viable.net or dial help.ViableVRS.TV on your videophone on weekdays between 9AM-9PM for live support.

If you have additional questions not covered in this FAQ, please contact our Customer Support Representatives (www.viable.net/support). Viable Customer Support and our website are your sources for the latest information on the VPAD and everything we do at Viable.
